The Challenge

Understanding the Problem

The project addressed the challenge of enabling measurable and sustainable mobility decisions in everyday urban travel. While awareness of environmental impact exists, users lacked reliable, real-time guidance that translated complex environmental, traffic, and mobility data into actionable routing choices. The client needed to integrate heterogeneous sensor and mobility data sources into a privacy-aware platform capable of evaluating routes based on environmental impact and operational conditions, while remaining usable and trustworthy for daily adoption within a real city environment.

Our Approach

The Solution

As a project partner, we designed, built, operated, and continuously evolved a platform that connects OpenStreetMap/GIS-based routing with real-time urban sensor data and model-driven environmental evaluation (e.g., CO₂, particulate matter). During the project we migrated the complete system landscape from AWS to an on-prem Kubernetes environment, ensuring long-term operability and independence from cloud-specific services.

Outcome

The Value We Delivered

Operationalized scientific mobility and environmental models within a production-grade platform
Provided end-to-end platform ownership across 3.5+ years of continuous operation
Established a standards-based, interoperable urban mobility data ecosystem
Executed full cloud-to-on-prem migration ensuring data sovereignty and long-term operational independence
Established a validated real-time urban sensor data backbone integrating heterogeneous city data sources
Enabled environment-aware routing to support measurable sustainable mobility decisions
Delivered a research workbench enabling scientists to integrate sensor data and execute mobility models without managing infrastructure or deployment
Delivered a tool to easily deploy mcp server to a private K8s cluster
